Giorgia is one of Italy's most popular and admired female artists, thanks to her privileged voice and her willingness to take creative chances. Spirito Libero, Giorgia's first box set collection, chooses to address the singer's natural eclecticism by dividing her output along thematic lines, rather than chronological order. The first disc presents a selection of her ballads and songs more akin to the melodic style of traditional Italian popular music. The second, on the other hand, is devoted to her uptempo material, often reflecting Giorgia's lifelong passion for African-American music, specifically soul, jazz, and blues. The third and last CD gathers 15 duets and collaborations with the likes of Herbie Hancock, Mina, Pino Daniele, Ronan Keating, Fiorello, and Elio & le Storie Tese, among others. A comprehensive -- if far from exhaustive -- anthology, Spirito Libero cherry-picks from all of Giorgia's studio, live, and compilation releases since her 1994 debut, and it even includes a 1992 number from her days as a soul vocalist with the covers band Io Vorrei la Pelle Nera. Many selections, however, appear in reworked or newly recorded versions. In addition, this box set introduces four previously unreleased songs, the single "Per Fare a Meno di Te" (written with Fabrizio Campanelli), "Via Col Vento," "Farei di Tutto," and "Lacrime Amare."
