AllMusic Review by

Spiral Staircase: Classic Songs collects Ralph McTell's early recordings for the Transatlantic label from 1967 to 1970, including, of course, his most famous song, "Streets of London." Although this material has been endlessly reissued over the years in one form or another, this is the final statement on this period, offering extensive liner notes and essentially everyting he recorded during his stint with the label. Until a cross-licensing miracle allows for the definative package chronicling his 30+-year career (including the brilliant You Well-Meaning Brought Me Here, which unfortunately remains out of print), this is the best introduction to McTell's work.
