Time Life's Sounds of the Seventies: AM Pop Classics rounds up 22 examples of exactly what the title promises. Mixing together a wide variety of styles (smooth soul, country-rock, bubblegum, novelty tunes, and funk), some pretty obscure titles like Bullet's "White Lie, Blue Eyes," and some forgotten classics like Reunion's "Life Is a Rock (But the Radio Rolled Me)," the disc isn't a run-of-the-mill set that just gives you the same old hits. There are indeed plenty of big hits here, but the surprises are what lift it to a more interesting level. A nice collection if you're just getting into the '70s, it also makes for a great road-trip disc if you're traveling the highway or just cruising down memory lane.
