A full album was scheduled to come out following this EP, but Midnight Music's collapse meant that this is the only available document of what would have the follow-up to The Back of This Beyond. Instead of Robin Guthrie, his regular studio partner Lincoln Fong helped on co-production and music this time around with Hamish Mackintosh, who again creates some fine, gentle songs. The dreamy chime of "Honey Comes Softly" begins things, perhaps not surprisingly carrying a bit of Cocteau Twins ring to it, but standing well on its own merits. The rushed pace and heavy guitar of "Love Drips and Gathers" follows, Mackintosh's soft, sometimes piercing voice floating along pleasantly through the mix. The calmer "My Cadence Breaking" is a fine enough number, but the concluding "Callin" is the real winner, with a bright, sweeping feeling that feels like early-'80s Simple Minds with less airs but the same optimistic surge of energy.
