With the appearance of multiple offerings, 2013 was certainly a banner year for fans of Roger Taylor. Solo Singles 1, a collection of rarities, live tracks, and alternate versions of singles by the erstwhile Queen drummer can also be found in The Lot, his exhaustive 12-disc career-spanning box set which literally includes the lot: his entire solo output since 1977. As if emptying the vaults wasn't quite enough, Taylor capped off the year with Fun on Earth, his first album of new material since 1998's Electric Fire. The 17 tracks featured on the first Solo Singles disc cover the span between his first single, 1977's "I Wanna Testify" and his third LP, 1994's Happiness?. There are definitely a few curiosities here. The early pre-album singles and alternate mixes from his 1984 effort Strange Frontier fare quite well, but the five different mixes of his mid-'90s rocker "Nazis" are best left for Taylor die-hards and Queen completists.
