Luther Vandross, David Benoit, Gregg Karukas, Jeff Porcaro, Abe Laboriel, Luis Conte, Jeff Weber: with musical talent like this helping him out on his debut, how can sweet-voiced songwriter/vocalist Lasley miss? This collection sports both sensuous originals (including "You Bring Me Joy" from Anita Baker's first album) and dynamite covers of tunes from the likes of Carole King, Randy Newman, and Billie Holliday. There are a few up numbers, but Lasley's Stylistic-like vocals are richest on the soaring parts of the ballads. Agenda was a promising new jazz label at the time of this release, and Lasley expanded them into the adult contemporary/easy listening market. Unfortunately, the singer went back to his day job of backup singing and never followed this up with anything of note.
