From the '80s on, Boston was a haven for fast, old-school hardcore and many labels, including Deathwish, were known for releasing it. Unfortunately, after years of the same sound, there were few variations left. Embrace Today may play competently on Soldiers, but the music is hardly original. This sound could easily have been heard years ago by acts such as Agnostic Front, Cro-Mags, and Minor Threat, but with a lot more urgency, honesty, and power. Unfortunately, what is here falls short, and the band seemingly fails to remember that one of the greatest aspects of hardcore punk is the concept of being different from those around one's self.
