AllMusic Review by

Part of a series of two-CD sets recorded live at E.J.'s in Atlanta, this program features tenor saxophonist Al Cohn with a fine local rhythm section (pianist Dan Wall, bassist Neal Starkey, and drummer Brian Childers). Cohn, whose tone had darkened from his earlier "cool" days, was still in prime form during this period. Although he mostly sticks to standards, he also performs two originals ("Woody's Lament" and "Danielle") and a swing version of "America the Beautiful." Other highlights include "You Stepped Out of a Dream," "I Love You," and "Tickle Toe." Although all of the music from his two sets at E.J.'s, which would close its doors a few months later, is included on this two-fer, there are no slow or rambling moments. As usual, Al Cohn both swings and makes maximum use of each note. This European-label release may be a little difficult to find.
