Sinbad's Summer Soul Jam is part of EMI-Capitol Music Special Markets' Live Series line, which is all licensed from Intersound Productions. Intersound specializes in latter-day recordings from artists past their prime -- and that much should have been clear from the fact that Sinbad, a comedian who didn't become massively popular until the '90s, is hosting the concert tour. There's a weird mix of '70s and '80s artists on the disc -- War, the Ohio Players, Maze, Earth, Wind & Fire, the O'Jays, Average White Band, and Teena Marie -- none of whom sound particularly good here, even if they're playing their most famous songs. The end result is a weak, tired live set that probably won't even interest hardcore fans of any of the featured groups.
