AllMusic Review by

Part of what makes this four-disc, 59-track set of country love songs so intriguing is that most of these selections are on the obscure side, relatively speaking -- one gets Johnny Cash doing a version of Don Gibson's "Oh Lonesome Me," for instance, instead of "Ring of Fire" or "I Walk the Line," or Roy Acuff's early rendition of "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" instead of the more familiar version by Willie Nelson. The songs here are solid, as are the performances, even if they often aren't the famous versions. Other highlights include Cash's "Train of Love," Waylon Jennings' fine take on Roy Orbison's "Crying," Hank Williams (with the Drifting Cowboys) singing "Baby, We're Really in Love," and Patti Page's definitive version of "The Tennessee Waltz," among others.
