AllMusic Review by

This vinyl album is one of the few surviving remnants of the recording career of New Orleans trumpeter/cornetist/vocalist Sharkey Bonano. Although the liner note information (this could very well be a bootleg issue) doesn't give recording dates, aurally much of the material aboard sounds very much like the 1936 and 1937 New York sessions Bonano recorded with members of Eddie Condon's group, a long way from New Orleans, indeed, although Irving Fazola's clarinet work keeps things from heading into Shakey's Pizza Parlor territory. Sharkey's vocals often sound like he's working the vaudeville circuit, but when he starts to blow his horn, you realize you're in the presence of unpolished greatness.
