This out-of-print LP from Calliope was part of a series taken from the soundtracks of Bobby Troup's Sounds of Swing television series. One show features clarinetist Buddy DeFranco's quintet on three songs (including "Concerto for Heartbeat and Machine Age" which is really an uptempo blues) and a pair of vocals by Lucy Ann Polk. The flip side finds Pam Russell singing "Stormy Weather" and there are also three numbers from Art Pepper's Quartet (which includes pianist Larry Bunker); a highlight is "St. Louis Blues" which features Pepper on both alto and clarinet. Although this brief set overall is not essential, it has its share of swinging music and should appeal particularly to DeFranco and Pepper completists.
