AllMusic Review by

With nearly a dozen number one songs among the 40 songs in this two-CD collection, Sentimental 60's is an easy recording to like. The one thing that strikes even the casual listener in this collection is how much care was put into each of these tunes. Even the few that might be seen as overwrought are done well. Though there are few surprises in the selection, the highlights are many: Ben E. King's "Stand by Me" and Percy Sledge's "When a Man Loves a Woman" are among the best songs of the decade. Lenny Welch's "Since I Fell for You" is less often seen in collections, and is another outstanding song given a great dramatic reading. The countrypolitan sound is captured in Brenda Lee's biggest hit, "I'm Sorry." Though there are many easy listening collections out on the market, this is one of the better ones to capture the essence of the sentimental side of the turbulent '60s. Serious collectors will have to look elsewhere to find obscure gems of the decade, but this is a fine primer to get to the basics of love in the decade of upheaval and great social change.
