AllMusic Review by

Continuing along the musical territory initially laid in his 1998 debut, Andrew McCutcheon followed Out of the Lion's Mouth with the full-length Second Sun. Apparently more secure in his expression (permitting the fuller realization of all his influences from the Doors through Beck), McCutcheon boldly composed songs that reach listeners on various meditative and intellectual levels. While this is happening, heavily stylized pop guitar hooks, synthesizers, organs, harmonicas, and hip-hop flourishes offer reassuring familiarity within the pop tradition. With this original recording, Andrew McCutcheon also establishes himself as a complete songwriter in the truest sense.
