AllMusic Review by

The fourth installment of the popular horror franchise Scream reunited director Wes Craven with actors Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, and David Arquette, but the usual fare of up-and-coming hard rock/post-grunge acts that peppered the soundtracks of previous entries was replaced by a gaggle of up-and-coming indie rock and pop outfits like the Sounds, Ida Marie, and Say Hi -- a few hard-hitting selections remain, like Stereo Black's stadium-sized electro-rocker “Denial” and Locksley's bluesy, Nuggets-inspired “On Fire.” Elsewhere, composer Marco Beltrami gets two slots for his score, both of which break little ground for the genre, but skillfully help to ratchet up the dread, and Raney Shockne offers up a weird karaoke-style carbon copy cover of Harold Faltermeyer's iconic Beverly Hills Cop theme, “Axel F,” resulting in a hodgepodge of moods and styles that never quite clicks, but dutifully echoes the formless post-MP3 musical culture of 2011.
