The mid-'50s were not only a formative but a golden age for pre-soukous. Moreover, the rumbas hadn't yet displaced the biguines that were a (sorely missed) glory of early Congo music, and the stars hadn't hit on a successful formula, so the variety matches the verve. There's even one of those great finger-piano numbers. The admirable notes are in English, too.
