Roger Brown & Swing City's eponymous debut EP is an invigorating slice of updated western swing that brings the classic country genre into the line-dancing '90s. Brown and his 10-piece band are quite fluent instrumentally, and are more than able to keep abreast of the wild eclectism of western swing. Furthermore Brown's songwriting skills are impressive -- it's easy to hear why his songs were recorded by many artists of the early '90s. Roger Brown & Swing City is a terrific, fun slice of dance music. The only thing wrong with it is that it's too short -- after it's finished, you'll wish it was a full-length album.
