It’s been obvious for a while now that one can turn any pop star’s hits into lullabies and there’s a cottage industry in such things, all designed to send baby off to dreamville. One assumes all these lullaby CDs work as intended, but one can’t help but be bemused and maybe just slightly alarmed at lullaby versions of songs like Madonna's “Like a Virgin” or “Papa Don’t Preach” pressed into use as vehicles for baby sleep enhancement. It takes all kinds of things to make the world go 'round, so these soothed-out takes on Madonna's hits (performed and produced by Steven Charles Boone) emerge as pleasant, calm, and mildly innocuous -- all things that Madonna has never been in her career.
