AllMusic Review by

Rock of the '80s, Vol. 4: Modern Girls is a budget-priced hodgepodge of early-'80s hits sung by females. The collection leans toward new wave, featuring not only genuine New Wave icons -- Blondie ("The Tide is High"), Katrina and the Waves ("Walking on Sunshine"), Kim Wilde ("Kids in America"), Missing Persons ("Words") -- but mainstream artists with productions influenced by new wave: Sheena Easton's "Modern Girl," the Motels' "Take the L," Tina Turner's "Private Dancer" and Kim Carnes' "Bette Davis Eyes." The result is a little uneven, but it's an entertaining snapshot of a forgotten era.
