Rock of the '70s, Vol. 1 is a ten-track, budget-line hodgepodge that contains everything from the Hollies' classic CCR homage "Long Cool Woman (In a Black Dress)" and Focus' bizarre prog-yodel "Hocus Pocus" to Skynyrd's sleazy Southern rocker "What's Your Name" and the Raspberries' power-popper "Go All the Way." With a collection as ridiculously diverse as that, it's little wonder that it doesn't really hold together, but it does have a number of fun songs, including Sweet's "Ballroom Blitz" and Pat Benatar's "Heartbreaker," that can justify its purchase in the eyes of '70s rock fans.
