This release from Clint Eastwood's Malpaso subsidiary includes six of eight selections from a Bee Hive record by singer Johnny Hartman (dating from Aug. 11, 1980), an additional Hartman performance originally put out on a sampler (from the same date) plus two numbers by pianist Ahmad Jamal that are from an unidentified MCA record. The lack of documentation (a complete omission of dates and even personnel) along with an absence of any liner notes is quite inexcusable. One can appreciate Eastwood's love of jazz and this music (Hartman's warm vocals are ballad-oriented and uplift a variety of veteran standards), but the packaging is inexcusably sparse to say the least.
