The press release accompanying Red Hurley's 2008 release, Raised on Songs and Stories, declares the singer as "Ireland's Best Voice." A pretty bold statement -- especially since the album is Hurley's first-ever to be released on U.S. soil. But, let's give credit where credit's due -- Hurley is a sensation back home in Ireland, where he has scored 15 chart-topping singles and eight chart-topping albums. And as far as powerful, pure-sounding voices go, Hurley's is pretty darn impressive, as evidenced throughout Raised on Songs and Stories. The style of music is definitely of the more mature variety -- no rock & roll sounds can be detected at all, as such tracks as "You're Still You" and "I Will Sing" border on new age (piano, swirling strings, etc.). However, for those seeking some easy listening sounds led by fine male vocals, then Raised on Songs and Stories will serve as a fine introduction to quite possibly one of your new favorite artists, Mr. Red Hurley.
