Rhino's Radio Daze: Pop Hits of the '80s is a five-volume series culling the hits and highlights from early-'80s adult contemporary radio. Each disc is equally divided between guilty pleasures and bland, tedious dreck, but that only means that the series captures the feeling and sound of adult contemporary radio. In fact, it's surprising how many genuinely good songs are scattered throughout the collection. Although one volume is no better than the next -- making any of the five discs an equally representative starting point -- there is just as much schlock as there are worthwhile songs and entertaining kitsch on each collection. Because of this, Radio Daze may not be consistently entertaining, but it's hard to imagine a better collection of early-'80s adult contemporary than this. And that's even acknowledging the absence of Air Supply.
