This Fuel 2000 release is actually the American issue of a title from France's BYG label from 1965. The date was recorded in live setting and showcased Wes Montgomery in the company of such mighty jazzmen as Johnny Griffin, Harold Mabern, and Jimmy Lovelace. The selection of tunes is solid too, opening with John Coltrane's "Impressions," and moving through "'Round Midnight," with a beautiful solo by Griffin, the burning "Mr. Walker," and Mabern's wonderful "To When," among others. This is a scorching hard bop performance.
