AllMusic Review by

The 66-track compilation Pure Grooves, released in the U.K. and sold for roughly the same price as one full-price CD, boasts "the very best of R&B, soul, disco, and old skool hiphop." What it does not note is the fact that it's presented as a DJ mix, with several selections adjusted to a faster tempo for the sake of beat matching and keeping the sequence moving along. However, there aren't many faults to be found with the selections, a wide range of '70s-'90s material that includes the Jackson Sisters' "I Believe in Miracles," Roy Ayers Ubiquity's "Running Away," Shalamar's "I Can Make You Feel Good," Keith Sweat's "I Want Her," Womack & Womack's "Teardrops," and N.W.A's "Express Yourself."
