A unique collection, P is a new collection of old songs from Germany's ex-metal band Pyogenesis. Each track (except for the final three previously unreleased numbers) is given a complete reworking with generally positive results. Most cuts ("Empty Space," "Every Single Day") are given pop/punk treatments that bear practically no resemblance to the original recordings. "I Remember" and the oddly heavy "Twinaleblood and Steel" are among the best of these reanimated numbers. The one negative about this disc is the subdued vocal approach. The music is punchy and the melodies could be crisp, but P sorely needs a more passionate delivery from singer Peter Rutard. As remix efforts go (although P doesn't exactly fit that category), this 2000 Nuclear Blast offering qualifies as a minor success. Fans of Pyogenesis' later, more pop-oriented work will certainly enjoy this conceptual repackaging.
