Carnal Forge returns with Please...Die!, an album that succeeds in making Slayer seem slow. This Swedish five-piece churns forth 12 songs of rapid-fire speed metal that could make even the healthiest soul have a heart attack. The band has shuffled their roster around a bit since 2000's Firedemon, yet manages to sound stronger than ever before. A focal point to Please...Die! has to be the dual guitar assault, which first bludgeons the listener with brutal thrash and then seduces with melodic panache that marks the album as European. Jonas Kjellgren's screams are blistering in intensity, especially on "Everything Dies," yet vocally he bears a strong resemblance to Tom Araya of Slayer fame. This similarity is the only thing that stops Carnal Forge from truly shining as a bright light in the speed metal genre. Please...Die! is a near-perfect album, and any Slayer or At the Gates fan is sure to find this to be a magnificent release.
