AllMusic Review by

The archival DVD release Pictures at an Exhibition: Collector's Edition documents a 1970 Emerson, Lake, & Palmer concert in which they perform in its entirety what would comprise their 1972 album of the same name. While many longtime fans consider the piece (which is 40 minutes long and comprised of 11 tracks) as one of their finest, newcomers to the group may find the performance just a tad self-indulgent and longwinded. While the playing is expectedly exceptional, recurring dated video effects (which reek of the early '70s) eventually take away from the music being performed. ELP may have had more instantly recognizable selections than the ones featured here (including such mystical titles as "Gnome," "The Sage," and "The Hut of Baba Yaga"), but Pictures at an Exhibition: Collector's Edition is guaranteed to bring enjoyment to ELP worshippers. (Note: Pictures at an Exhibition: Collector's Edition is a two-sided disc, one side featuring the DVD, the other an audio CD.)
