This sampler has 17 selections from the Period catalog, music that had been previously put out on Everest LPs. Unfortunately the liner notes (mostly excerpted from Leonard Feather's original notes for the various LPs) only give partial personnel and do not include the recording dates. With the exception of a couple numbers from Django Reinhardt that are from 1947, the music is from the 1950s. The music is quite rewarding overall and full of variety, ranging from various forms of swing and touches of Dixieland to the blues of Big Bill Broonzy and the folk music of Josh White. Overall, the selections are excellent, making one hope that the complete sessions will eventually be made available on CD.
