AllMusic Review by

In 2001, Viva Records released Pangako...Ikaw Lang (Promise...Only You), a movie soundtrack. Most songs are performed by Philippine female singer Regine Velasquez. She is also the film's leading lady. Also appearing is Philippine female artist Jaya, as well as Sherilyn Reyes, Dianne Roque, and Raul Mitra. Regine Velasquez duets with Philippine male artist Robert Arevalo on "Someone to Watch Over Me," composed by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin. The album is dominated by passionate, easy listening love songs and middle-of-the-road music. Only one of the album's 12 tracks, "Thank You for Being My Friend," is moderately upbeat, although the mostly slow "Someone to Watch Over Me" contains a spirited section. Regine Velasquez is masterful throughout the album, and imbues each of her songs with passion and grace. Her experience and maturity as a singer is clearly evident. Her handling of the jazz-inflected "Someone to Watch Over Me" is stunning, and she sounds confident on both the introspective sections of the song, as well as the swinging section. Regine Velasquez should consider singing more jazz numbers. The easy listening songs don't present much of a challenge, and she imbues them with a grandeur they don't deserve. Jaya is another talented singer, and her handling of the somewhat edgy ballad "Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang" is also excellent. Sherilyn Reyes sounds awkward on "Thank You for Being a Friend," and Dianne Roque needs development.
