Another strong release from Eric Brouta, on which we find a cavalcade of stars from the Henri Debs empire of zouk. On the albums of established zouk artists such as this, one finds real drummers on the Ka drum, traditional to Guadeloupe, and a full complement of horns. This is true on Over The Top, where the energy level is high and the grooves elevate the swing quotient. Eric Brouta has a deft ability to hit the zouk bull's-eye time after time, and simultaneously strike chords deep within the mysterious realms of traditional Guadeloupean music. The magical interweaving of these two elements to create a soundscape tapestry is what distinguishes artists like this from the rest of the zoukeurs. "Tropika," "A Zero," "Overlove," "Man Men Cho," and "Olivia" are all very strong tracks. This is zouk done with spunk and bounce with hardly any filler. Dance music of the highest caliber. Highly recommended.
