The jam sessions at the Manassas Jazz Festivals tended to be overly loose, if fun. There are some good moments on this LP which consist of seven Dixieland numbers from the 1973 festival and a version of "Dinah" that was recorded in 1975. Carson's powerful cornet is generally the star; his supporting cast in the occasionally overcrowded ensembles include clarinetists Jack Maheu and Herbie Hall, Kenny Davern or George Probert on soprano, Bill Allred or Bill Rank on trombone, and Claude Hopkins or Art Hodes on piano among others. This LP will be difficult to find, since the Fat Cat label has been long defunct.
