Oldies but Goodies: 80's Pop, Vol. 1 is a strange assortment of hits from the 1980s. It begins with a handful of pop/rock singles before dipping into a lot of R&B. Pat Benatar's "Heartbreaker," Duran Duran's "Girls on Film," Tina Turner's "Private Dancer," and Kim Carnes' "Bette Davis Eyes" kick off the disc, and then the likes of the Whispers, Ashford & Simpson, Soul II Soul, Midnight Star, Freddie Jackson, and Peabo Bryson show up. This is just a bizarre way of being diverse; though fans of R&B and rock certainly overlap by a good amount, the odds of someone needing this particular Duran Duran song and this particular Peabo Bryson song are not very good. This set is far too random to be recommendable.
