AllMusic Review by

This CD contains 25 selections featuring the Count Basie Orchestra taken from radio broadcasts. Ten numbers are from an April 1944 session in which tenor great Lester Young (who had rejoined the band the following year) is well-featured. In addition there is one number ("G.I. Stomp") from 1943 while the remainder are from several sessions during 1944-45. In addition to Young, the main soloists include trumpeter Harry "Sweets" Edison, trombonist Dickie Wells, Buddy Tate on tenor, clarinetist Rudy Rutherford and the pianist/leader; plus there are occasional vocals from Jimmy Rushing, Thelma Carpenter, Maxine Johnson and Earl Warren. This underrated version of Basie's big band was one of his best and the 76 minutes on this CD contains many highpoints.
