Released two months after Bomb in a Birdcage, this EP finds A Fine Frenzy getting into the holiday spirit with three originals and three Christmas classics. The covers are perfectly pleasant, most of them performed acoustically and sung by frontman Alison Sudol in a lilting, whimsical alto that helps spruce up the overly familiar material. Sudol’s originals are the highlight of the disc, though, and their sprightly melodies point to a songwriter who continues to grow with each recording. As with many holiday-themed albums, Oh Blue Christmas is mostly a novelty gift for fans of the band, although songs like “Redribbon Foxes” do have broader appeal.
