North River's strength has always been their live act, captured here for the first time. These guys are tight and they play their original blend of instrumental world folk-pop with passion and precision. Longstanding favorites such as "The Bread and the Wine" and "The Great Returning" finally get to see the light of day. These, mixed with their newer, more jazz-influenced work (e.g., "Mezzmoritus" and "Interstellar Hooptie"), make for an intriguing and satisfying listen. Nice dulcimer work on "Verna." Things do tend to slow down a bit too much by the end of the CD, but that does not diminish the excitement and energy that led up to that point. Fans of Pentangle will find something new in this release.
