Varese Sarabande's Night of Fear compilation collects ten "spooky novelty songs," all of which will be quite familiar to listeners. However, these are not the original recordings but later versions, many of which are by the artists that made them famous in the first place. That means instead of Classics IV doing "Spooky," you get a Dennis Yost re-recording which is pretty close to the original, but doesn't capture the same mood. This technique applies to "Dead Man's Curve," "Purple People Eater" and "Monster Mash" as well. Also, including the hillbilly standard "Dead Skunk" (in the middle of the road) is pushing it.
