Chic was the dance band that summed up the ephemeral spirit of the 1980s; its series of hits with iconic cuts like "Good Times," "Le Freak," and "I Want Your Love" provided the soundtrack to a decade of conspicuous consumption and non-stop partying. Though its 21st-century incarnation, seen and heard on this combination CD/DVD live at Amsterdam's Paradiso, lacks the powerhouse rhythm section of the drummer Tony Thompson, who died 2003, and its co-founder and bassist Bernard Edwards, who died in 1996, the band still manages a set of convincing vitality, helmed by the producer and guitarist Nile Rodgers and fronted by the singer Fonzi Thornton. The DVD also includes band interviews, rarely seen photographs, and backstage scenes.
