Tenor saxophonist Gordon Brisker had a rare opportunity to lead a big band for this Discovery LP. Brisker provided all of the arrangements and three of the seven selections, which also include J.J. Johnson's "Lament," "Just One of Those Things" and Wayne Shorter's "Prince of Darkness." Many of Los Angeles' top musicians of the period are heard from, including trumpeters Steve Huffsteter and Bob Summers, altoists Bob Sheppard and Kim Richmond, pianist John Beasley and drummer Victor Lewis (imported from the East Coast). Fine advanced straight-ahead big band music.
