AllMusic Review by

Music from Morocco: From Tangier to the Sahara is an excellent double-disc collection compiled by the folks at Virgin (France), containing 22 cuts by well known artists such as Khamous Mahjoub, L'Orchestre Arabo, Najat Aatabou, Nass El Ghiwane, Bouchra, Fatima Tabaarant, and the great percussion band La Daqqa De Marrakech, just to name a few. The music here reflects the rich heritage and variety in Arabic music, even as its diaspora moved from the Middle East to colonized countries and cities in France. The beautiful traditional religious song "Inshab," by Abderrahim Souiri, sets things to moving from the very root of Arabic music that continues through folk and traditional Islamic hymns to wedding songs, contemporary pop to music influenced by the various conquering colonizers that is woven into the tradition. Excellent sound, notes (in French) and perspective. Highly recommended.
