1982 was far from one of the truly banner years in Motown history, with legends like Stevie Wonder and Smokey Robinson past their creative primes and with new roster additions like Bobby Nunn, Bettye Lavette and Jean Carn failing to pick up the slack. This 16-track entry into the label's Year by Year series sifts through the rubble to assemble the year's highlights, and the results are shockingly paltry -- the novelty value of Jose Feliciano's "I Second That Emotion" aside, the only really distinctive single here is the Dazz Band's club smash "Let It Whip"; the remaining cuts are unmemorable, some of them best left forgotten altogether.
