AllMusic Review by

One of many releases celebrating Motown’s 50th anniversary, the U.K. release Motown 50 Love is a triple-disc set covering 50 of the label’s most romantic tunes. The disc skips through history at will -- Lionel Richie’s '80s ballad “Hello” sits next to the Jackson 5’s '70s slow dance “I’ll Be There” and Marvin Gaye’s joyous '60s number “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)” -- but this isn’t disconcerting for one simple reason: all these songs are so familiar that they sound good in most reasonable contexts, which this certainly is. If there’s any fault to this collection, it’s that each of the 50 selections is too familiar, but delivering comfort and nostalgia is kind of the point of an anniversary release.
