Vancouver's Monstercat throws a curveball on its 19th volume Endeavour. The label issues approximately three tracks a week and compiles them at the end of every quarter. This 32-track set breaks with previous editions in that it features absolutely no glitch hop or nu disco, and spends roughly a third of its real estate on electro. That said, there is the label's signature smorgasbord approach to the contents here. Among its many, many EDM highlights are the four-on-the-floor pop anthem "Snowblind" by Au5, with its drop breaks and the soaring vocals of Tasha Baxter. Rootkit's "Against the Sun," a meld of drumstep and future drum'n'bass racket, is held together by a wonky bassline and Anna Yvette's truly cinematic singing. Aero Chord's slamming future bass on "Boundless" is addictive, and Didrick's live performance mix of tracks from throughout Monstercat's discography is as catchy as it is provocative.
