AllMusic Review by

After Memphis icons 8Ball & MJG flirted with a more commercially viable sound on Bad Boy Records (with the 2007 album RIDIN’ HIGH), 8Ball was prompted to drop a gutter solo release squarely directed at the streets (DOIN’ IT BIG). His longtime partner MJG followed suit with PIMP TIGHT, his second solo album--a traditionally grimy Dirty South record that’s drenched in bluesy Memphis funk. As the title suggests, the majority of the tracks on PIMP TIGHT stay focused on the trials and tribulations of the contemporary pimp. Still MJG shows he’s not afraid to experiment musically, sampling a seemingly untouchable loop from Journey’s chart-topper "Don't Stop Believin'" on “Small Town Girl.” Blood brother 8Ball makes cameos on two cuts.
