Sharp may not have much street cred (or even name recognition) among the listeners who usually buy blues records, but there's no denying his impressive skills in the idiom. The songs, too, are interestingly offbeat, being more absorbed with a sort of spiritual, questing attitude than the more mundane cliches of much modern blues. Queen Esther, however, is no more than an average vocalist, sounding as if she may be more at home with jazz than blues.
