AllMusic Review by

Midnight Rendezvous was the title given to the Canadian reissue of Tokyo Blade's eponymous U.K. debut from a year earlier. But although its striking, rising sun-themed cover art was virtually identical to the original, the track listing differed slightly, with four cuts replaced by the new title track, "Mean Streak," and "Highway Passion" -- all of which had recently been issued in Europe as the Midnight Rendezvous EP. Confused yet? Not as confused as you'll be when informed that these selfsame tracks were in fact re-recorded versions of pre-Tokyo Blade songs, dating back to when the bandmembers were still calling themselves Genghis Khan. So please refer to the Tokyo Blade LP from 1983 for a description of the proper debut album's original nine tracks, and take note that subsequent reissues often combined songs from both versions for good measure. Or "bad measure," many would argue, since the more commercial alterations made to the Canadian edition only served to dilute the edited excellence of the real deal from 1983.
