AllMusic Review by

German saxophonist Peter Weniger is the featured guest with the Metropole Orchestra (conducted by Rob Pronk) on these early-'90s sessions. Equally facile on tenor and soprano saxophones, Weniger dives headlong into the arrangements for big-band and strings. He's on soprano for a stimulating take of "(There Is) No Greater Love" and a wild "There Will Never Be Another You" that has a wonderfully disguised introduction, both arrangements by Rob Pronk. The strings set up the haunting setting of "Yesterdays," with Weniger again on soprano. Playful, soft percussion sets up "On Green Dolphin Street," showcasing Weniger's lush tenor. "In a Sentimental Mood" automatically provokes comparisons to any number of saxophonists in Duke Ellington's band who were featured soloists on this piece, but Weniger acquits himself with a spacious, lyrical solo. Like most of the recording by the Metropole Orchestra with a guest, this release is one worth seeking.
