AllMusic Review by

The first compilation of Goldie's Metalheadz label is a roll call of jungle's most crucial artists: Photek, Source Direct, Dillinja, J. Majik, Alex Reece, Peshay, and Lemon D. Released around the same time as L.T.J Bukem's Logical Progression, Platinum Breakz proves that Bukem has no business talking about intelligent jungle; though the styles of Metalheadz and Bukem's Looking Good/Good Looking imprints are quite similar -- that is, somewhat house-influenced breakbeats -- most of the contributions on Logical Progression have simple rhythms and are usually drowned out by extra, unneeded effects. The beats and percussion work on Platinum Breakz stand alone, besides spare synth lines and the occasional diva vocal. The rhythms constantly shift around, stopping and restarting. While Logical Progression begins to sound same, the artists on Platinum Breakz are easily differentiated. Highlights are difficult to define, though Source Direct, Photek, Dillinja, and J Majik's contributions are a very small step above the rest. Goldie's only contribution -- recorded as the Rufige Kru -- is okay but gets overshadowed.
