As many bands are choosing to do, Mama's Midlife Crisis has released a sampler of their songs, titled Meet the Mamas, on MP3.com. While Mamas fans probably already have these cuts, which are all available from their Live From the Living Room album, it does provide new listeners with a positive introduction to the group. Band members are Nancy Blanton on mandolin, banjo, fiddle, and whistles; Georgann Greene on fiddle; Jill Egland with flute, accordion, and whistles; and Mary Tulin on 12-string guitar and cittern. And when they interweave it all together, it's a lovely, lively meld. The Mamas have also chosen only instrumentals for this sampler, and since that's their strong suit, listeners will find these vibrant and energetic arrangements to be some of the group's highlights, particularly "Lilting Banshee." Definitely recommended for fans of Celtic music.
