If you're wondering what all the electronic music fuss is about, and/or you wanna dip your toe in a compilation where you might recognize a name or two, MAXIMUM ELECTRONICA is for you. You get a damn good overview of what some essential club-world musics sound like; from Voodoo Child's ambient-guided beats to Towa Tei's lounge-leaning samples. And you get some hardcore goodies thrown in; a rare Stereolab remix by drum & bass freak Wagon Christ that replaces the song's James Brown soul with a backwards-masking-happy DJ, and the best of the early Prodigy singles, where break-beats speed up some classic dancehall rhymes to downhill-fast fury. None of it is cutting edge, just tried and true, and enjoyable from top to bottom.
